Samsung I8520 Beam Mobile Phone

by Mobilemaniac on 2 March, 2010

Ever heard of a mobile phone with a built-in projector? That too of a width of less than 15mm? Presenting the Samsung I8520 Beam – Samsung’s first Andriod mobile phone that comes with an integrated projector. But is it actually necessary? I mean, how many of us are going to be needing a mobile projector to go along with us? Well, sometimes its just fun to use a gadget that has everything in it but the kitchen sink, right? The Samsung I8520 is one of my favourites that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress this year.

The phone is said to have an Android v2.1 operating system and a powerful 800 Mhz Cortex processor. But let’s drool a bit over the design before moving further into the specifications. First and foremost, the generous 3.7” Super AMOLED screen is a definite eye-catcher. The handset looks sturdy and has an incredibly high-end air about it. The projector of this gizmo is from Texas Instruments, a DLP Pico to be more precise. So, its supposedly one of the best in the market, for Texas Instruments is the only available source of DLP components.

The Samsung I8520 Android Mobile Phone is equipped with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 interface that integrates one’s social networks with the calender and contacts. But its the 8MP camera that’s worth a special mention. Furnished with autofocus and flash, the camera also supports 720p video. The Samsung Beam is a 3G device and supports WiFi, Bluetooth and 3.5G downloads & uploads. Sounds groovy, huh? We don’t have any information on pricing and availability, though. Samsung seems to be keeping this gem under wraps.

Verdict:
Samsung I8520 Beam is a pretty exciting mobile phone. Sporting sturdy looks and stalwart features, we’re looking at a downright winner here.
