Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 Android Mobile Phone
November 19, 2009
Samsung made its début to the Android universe with the launch of Samsung Galaxy i7500. Their second Android based handset for Europe (but Samsung’s fourth android phone in the world) is Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700. Unlike i7500, new Spica i5700 comes with some improved specifications and hence, it cannot be claimed to be a light weight version of Samsung Galaxy i7500. Like i7500, Spica i5700 too runs on Android 1.5 platform, but employs an 800MHz processor. The support for DivX, Xvid files, and pre-installed application called switchers are the other differences spotted between the two.
Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 Android Mobile Phone has a better look than i7500, with two colour variations-black-red and white-green. It features a 3.2 inches capacitive screen, with a fair resolution of 320 X 480 pixels, and supports 16million colours. Samsung’s AMOLED technology further enhances the view of the display. The Android 1.5 platform allows synchronization of phone contacts and calendar to Google accounts, offering the same easy functionality.
There is a pre-installed application called switchers found in Spica i5700, which allows easy access to GPS, bluetooth, Wi-Fi and automated synchronization system. Furthermore, an extensive support for messaging function is another asset of this android mobile phone. It supports SMS, MMS, e-mail, Instant messaging, and in-built Gmail client. A screen QWERTY keyboard is provided in it for the input and it could be viewed in both portrait and landscape mode.
A standard webkit based browser is incorporated in it for surfing through the internet. Another important feature in it is its assisted GPS function. The loaded navigational software is Google Map, and with an internet connection, you can load maps and share your location with your online buddies.
Samsung Galaxy i5700 is equipped with a 3.2 mega pixels camera. The absence of extra features such as flash, colour effects, white balance and contrast could be a little disappointing in this mobile phone. But the quality of images it captured cannot be blamed due to this, as it provides good images in natural lighting. There is also a provision to capture videos at 352 X 288 pixels, at a frame rate of 15fps. But unlike still images, the quality of videos it captures is found to be average.
Another area where Samsung i5700 3.2MP Mobile Phone scores is its multimedia capability. It plays back DivX and Xvid files with a maximum resolution of 720 X 480 pixels. The audio player it incorporates is also a standard one, and it seems to perform well. The handset offers a good sound quality when you listen to music. The call quality is also found to be clear and loud. The battery too provides a good life time, of nearly three days in case of a moderate use. Overall, it is a decent android handset with proper multimedia functionality.
