The Sony Ericsson X8 is the intermediate of the X10 mini and the X10. While it has a bigger screen unlike the X10 mini, it is economical and makes a much better buy for the features it offers. According to CNET, a leading tech reviewer, there are a few drawbacks in the X8 that requires some attention.
To start with, the mobile does not feature the latest OS – Android version 2.2 while its competitors do. Sony has stuck to the older version of 1.6 for the X8. Hence the phone will be missing certain unique features like Multiple Google Account or Exchange Email. A separate, pre-installed application would be required to run these features.
User Interface
The user-interface of the device supports a number of home screens that can be changed quite smoothly. But the drawback is the fact that only one widget can be placed in a screen at a time. The Xperia's screen resolution may not be the best in the business, with its 320 x 480 pixel HVGA resolutions.
On-screen Keyboard
The onscreen keyboard is one of the best bet of the mobile phone with its full QWERTY keypad both in portrait and landscape mode. The slow response of operation would also have its direct effect on typing in the mobile.
Applications
Though the X8 uses the older version of the Android OS, it offers smooth access to plenty of applications that includes some good social networking sites like the Facebook, Twitter and many more. The built-in networking application on the X8, the Timescape is just not upto standards.
Getting connected should not be a problem with Wi fi, 3G and HSPA features around. The GPS in the mobile does a good job of guiding you on your travels. Calls on the mobile are said to be pretty clear and the speakers were loud enough. The drawback however is the slowness of the keypads.
The Music
The X8 can be called as an inexpensive music phone as the music in the phone is pretty loud and good to the ears. Sharing music and the track arrangement is organized such that they can be easily handled. The ear buds included in the box are light, good-looking and very effective. Music transfer is another ease of a task for the X8. You do not have to have any synchronizing software for the transfer. The phone can be connected to the computer and music can be transferred using the simple drag and drop option. The FM radio onboard is also another option for your entertainment.
The X8 isn't the worst phone in the market but as CNET suggests, there are better phones in the market with the same price tag. These days mobile phones are like mini-computers that do just about anything for you. Its all about your smartness to get the value-for-money phones out there in the market.
