Motorola Flipout

Motorola has dared to do something different this time around with its Flipout mobile phone . Its a smartphone that runs on an Android OS. But it comes in a square shape and a swivelling design.

Small Screen Effect

The Flipout runs on an Android 2.1 OS which naturally means you can install loads of applications from the Android market including games and other software. Due to the smallness of the screen some of the applications may find it difficult to display itself especially when switched between the portrait and landscape mode.

User Interface

The Flipout has a special feature boosting its user interface, that is called MotoBlur, that includes few special services like a Web Site. This feature allows you to find your missing phone through the GPS signal. It also allows you to enable and disable your social network updates and other live widget activities without having to open the application.

 As CNET points out, the Flipout has wasted some precious space on the screen for occupying its rounded design widgets. Any list of applications or folders in the phone are found to be over-spaced that may not suit the small screen. The MotoBlur feature does a good job of accumulating all the contacts from the phone and all other social networks and the pictures involved in each of the contacts. These collections are stored in the Google's account to fill up the phone's contact. These contacts would also be stored online which means you will never lose your contacts even if you lose your phone.

Typing

Its always fun having a flipout mobile. This small phone from Motorola would feel great on the hands. Its also a device that is a typing delight. Its huge and bouncing keys would ensure easy typing. The QWERTY keypad is a boon to the users.

 The keypad contains a row of numbers and also a navigational pad. An ordinary user may not be using much of the navigational keys as the screen offers almost all the functions that are easy enough for a new user.

 While the flipout keypad is so good for those who prefer typing chat, the device does not upset you on your talk as well. The noise cancellation feature in the mobile would definitely win all your hearts.

Music

The phone's inbuilt media player from Tunewiki has some special features. Its got the social networking attachment which means you can find out what people in your town are listening to. Something new. The device automatically grabs most of the album art in the web for the existing songs in the phone's library. It also finds the lyrics and displays them as the song is being played.

The Web

Android's stunning browser and the Flash Lite support would mean that the Motorola Flipout is also a very good device to use for browsing. Its swift Wi-fi and HSDPA connectivity are responsible for an enjoyable internet experience.

 If there is one thing that is not so pleasing about the mobile, its the smallness of the screen and its low resolution that would mean unclear text reading (on some occasion). Plenty of zooming in and zooming out might be required if you intend to read long pages. However, its multi-touch capability, would mean zooming should be very easy and fun to use.

 The swivel nature of the phone is its speciality and the phone is solidly built with no problems while flipping out. The phone feels light and cheap and plasticky on the cover. Its back cover is swappable which means you can show off your fashion skills and customize the phone's appearance to suit your taste. Hence this little toy could also be a very good phone for your parties.

 Keeping in mind the small nature of the phone, the overall skills of the phone is not too bad. And if you are one to show off your uniqueness, then you can really go for it.
