LG Viewty GT

The LG Viewty GT is the latest phone in the LG's range of Viewty phones. The phone is for those who aim to buy a proper camera mobile phone. It is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera and a useful image editing software that will let you view quick slide shows of your snaps.

The Body

This phone is too small for a touch screen measuring 55 x 107 x 12mm. The phone is very light with just 98g. So there is nothing messy about it being your hand-friendly device. The phone's make-up feels a bit cheap with a plastic coating and does not promise to withstand falls and damages.

However, the front side of the phone is its highlight. The 3-inch touch screen has three buttons sitting below it. The central button is used for the menu option. The phone's left side is equipped with the micro SD card slot that can hold a memory capacity of 16GB. The right side of the phone is crowded with micro-USB port, then the volume keys, then the lock button and finally the camera switch. The top-right hand side of the mobile contains a small stylus.

The Screen

The Viewty's screen has a resistive touch option unlike the modern smart phone that has the capacitive touch screen. As a result the screen is not very sensitive. The screen's 240x400 resolution is not bad for a phone that is as cheap as the Viewty. The screen is bright and the colours offered are vivid.

The Viewty works on LG's S-Class interface. The device's home screen is bridged into two panels – one that displays widgets for Facebook, Twitter etc. and the other for short cuts to your favourite contacts.

The main menu in the phone are grouped into categories of four – communications, utilities, entertainments and settings. These categories are accessed through the tab on the right hand side.

Usability

Being a cheap phone does not stop the phone from performing certain basic multi-tasking activities. Task switching is an important feature that allows you to access a new task while you are in another task. The former task is kept on hold which you can continue later once your new task is over (unlike many other mobile phones that closes the task application).

 On the connectivity front, you will be missing on Wi fi but the phone supports HSDPA, 3G, GPS and Bluetooth. There is also support for Bluetooth and GPS.

The Camera delight

The camera in the Viewty is a real delight. For the price of the phone, a 5-mega pixel camera is a real delight. The camera is a real good one although you do not have the LED option. So just leave alone the option of taking photos in the dark.

 The functions in the camera are many and simply awesome with its white balance and colour effect and a timer. The photos taken are said to be very impressive with the camera never missing on minute details and is very accurate with the colours. The after-snapping-editing options are also very good with slide show options, zooming options and music and video attachment option using the effective Muvee Studio application. The camera can also be used for video recording but only with a QVGA resolution.

 The Viewty is by no means a very good music phone. The headphones supplied in the box are not expected to be very good. The phone also lacks a 3.5mm jack.

On the whole the LG Viewty GT is a phone for the camera freaks. It is a decent phone with good looks and an easy-to-use interface. A good bet for a low-priced challenge.
