Well now, here is an interesting introduction form Nokia – the X5-01. It’s a square slider phone with a slide-out QWERTY keymat. How often does Nokia launch square mobile phones? Not very, actually. Nokia says that this mobile phone is optimized for music and messaging, so its equipped with all the necessary fireworks. Design-wise, the Nokia X5-01 impresses – its funky and comes with a good deal of colour options such as purple, pink, graphite, azure and yellow green. However, this is a matter of opinion – we’re not sure how many fans the square design will win.
This Nokia smartphone runs on a Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and supports 3.5G, EGPRS and WCDMA. Being projected as a messaging device, this mobile phone has SMS, IM and MMS+SMIL features and supports Ovi mail, Nokia Messaging 2.0 and Mail for Exchange, the software that lets you sync all your contacts, calendars and tasks with Exchange servers and receive push email as well. Sporting a 2.36” QVGA display, the X5-01 should be fun to browse and text.
The X5-01 comes with a pretty efficient 5MP camera with 4xdigital zoom. And of course, this one doesn’t miss out on access to Facebook and Twitter. The music player of this handset supports AAC, AAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AU, eAAC+, M4A and MIDI formats, also included in stereo FM RDS radio. User memory comes up to 200 MB and you can expand it to 32 GB using microSD cards.
Now for the most important part: cost and release date. This handset is said to cost almost £135 and is set for a Q3 2010 release in Indonesia. Hopefully, it’ll reach the UK shores soon after that. A mobile phone that’s sure to meet all the needs of the young, looks funky and costs less – that’s the Nokia X5-01 for you.
