Here is a rather stylish handset that Nokia has announced for the Chinese market – the Nokia X5 TD-SCDMA. Firstly, the mobile phone looks pretty ordinary – it’s slabby but with slight curves and is available in black and red scheme & black and white schemes. The Nokia X5 is a music phone, music smartphone actually, with a good lot of features such as a dedicated music key that gives easy access to CMCC music client (China Mobile Music Service) and MM-Ovi Store, which is a joint venture of China Mobile and Nokia.
Included in the device is a music player that’s capable of MP3, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA playback and a 5MP camera with dual LED flash that can capture VGA video at up to 30 fps. The X5 has a 2.4” display and is a Symbian S60 device, offering access to a good range of applications. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.0 and Hi-Speed USB 2.0, not to mention a built-in GPS receiver with support for assisted GPS.
The Nokia X5 TD-SCDMA is equipped with an average 950 mAh battery that can offer seven hours of talk-time and seven days of standby time on 3G – we’re doubtful of the battery’s efficiency, though, given all the applications it has to power round the clock. The gizmo is ‘designed for music lovers and young trendsetters’ according to Nokia and also ships with support for CMCC Fetion instant messenger. The X5′s memory capacity is rather average – there’s a 256MB of on-board memory which can be expanded to 8GB.
This mobile phone is to hit the Chinese markets in the second quarter of this year. And as for a world-wide release, we don’t have any information as of now.
