mobile phone technology Worldwide mobile phone users to exceed adult population by 2014A leading daily reports that the number of mobile phone users worldwide could surpass adult population by 2010. Revealing these findings at the International Conference on Advances and Emerging Trends in Computing Technologies in India, the researchers said that it took 20 years to “to harness one billion cell phone users”, 40 months to step it up to 2 billion and just two years to touch the 3.5 billion mark.

The conference started on the 21st of June and will go on till the 24 in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu in India. A total of 84 papers from scientists from eight countries and 12 Indian states will be presented at the conference in the coming days.

Noting that internet access “through mobile technology” has already overtaken that of landline, Mr Manish Mehta, the chief delivery officer of Mahindra Satyam said, “While globalisation has brought down the cost of innovation, the next wave of IT will be in the automobile sector”
