browsing with mobile phone Which? Warns overseas smartphone users of bill shocksA product-testing and campaigning association has warned that smartphone users traveling abroad could face bill shocks if they tended to use the internet. Which? Says that people who use their smartphones for browsing while abroad could be charged up to £8 for each megabyte they download, which is approximately equal to an email with an attached photo. Furthermore, the association also says that a 5 minute music track and a 10 minute video clip could cost almost £200.

Several smartphone users have been in for ‘bill shocks’ after downloading content from the internet while abroad. 17 year-old son of Julia Feuell was charged £590 after a trip to New Zealand while a German smartphone user is reported to have been charged a whopping £41,000 for downloading a TV show in to his handset. Users must remember that their mobile phones are bound to roam the world wide web whenever they are switched on. Which? Suggests that users turn off the data roaming facility of their mobile phones while they are abroad. For, one could be charged even for receiving emails.
