Most UK mobile phone users don’t mind making false insurance claims
by Mobilemaniac on 30 June, 2010
According to a survey taken by a price comparison website, 66% of UK mobile phone users do not mind making false claims on their mobile phone insurance. What is more shocking is that, 18% admitted to have broken their handsets to make a claim over the insurance covered. One fifth of this said that they had deliberately broken their handsets just because it looked worn out or had a few scratches.
64% of the respondents said that they intentionally broke their mobile handsets in order to get a higher-end model. However, insurance policies provide cover only for a like-for-like replacement, so those planning to get newer models by breaking their functional old ones should give a thought before beating the handset against a rock.
Another startling fact that the survey revealed is that, of the 66% who said that they wouldn’t mind making a false insurance claim, 26% said that they would even lie that their mobile phone was lost or stolen to get a new one, which they would keep or sell. This indicates that the respondents did not mind lying even to the police, since claiming for insurance for a stolen mobile phone requires a crime reference number from the police department.
