Purple Gossip recently undertook a survey to study the impact of mobile phones in the lives of Britons, according to which these panoptic gizmos were found to be the most important gadget in the lives of 62% of Brits. About 60% of the respondents claimed that they couldn’t imagine a life without mobile phones while 68% percent said that they felt lost if they left their handsets back at home. Just 16% said that they could carry on without a mobile phone.

An interesting aspect about Purple Gossip’s poll is that, it discovered that only 20% of women used their mobile phones for accessing emails while almost 50% of men browsed using their mobile phones. 15% made of women made use of applications like MP3 players and games while a whopping 54% of men used them. Mobile phone usage was observed to have doubled over the last 7 years, with social networking sites being accessed by almost 40% of those with mobile phones.
