Quantum Physics Trick will soon make Mobile Phones Pressure-Sensitive
February 10, 2010
A revolutionary technology, Quantum Physics Tricks will be soon integrated into the mobile phones, so that the touch-screens and keys of the cell phones will become pressure-sensitive. Peratech, a British firm has invented a new composite material, called Quantum Tunnelling Composite (QTC) to employ this technology.
This Quantum mechanics technology will enable the keys and screens to scroll down through the long web pages or e-mails faster, when more pressure is applied. It can be integrated into any hand-held device, including mobile phones, GPS systems, games and so on.
Samsung Electronics, has gained a license from Peratech to distribute QTC to other mobile handset manufacturers. Samsung has incorporated QTC into the navigational keys of the smartphones. Another Japanese company, Nissha has also gained a similar agreement from Peratech for the same purpose. As per the agreement, Peratech is denied from revealing the names of the manufacturers, who will make use of this technology in their upcoming devices.
In addition to the pressure sensitivity, the applications on the touch-screens can be arranged by type on a single page, using this technology. And, the desired one can be selected by the press of the finger.
How it works:
Quantum Tunnelling Composite or QTC works on the basis of a phenomenon called ‘tunnelling’, an effect in Quantum mechanics. When the nano particles in the composite come closer to each other, due to the finger’s pressure, they undergo ‘tunnelling’ effect, which leads to the increase in current through it.
This QTC suits well for thin devices. At present, the devices make use of ‘conducting polymers’. QTC is said to be better than this, as they release current only when the pressure is applied. With this, the electronic devices are getting the ability to sense something.
