ofcom Ofcom sets deadline for mobile phone operators to speed up number transfers between networksMobile phone users of UK, at last will be soon able to move their telephone number to other network within one work day. After various years of intense argument between the mobile telecoms industry and communication industry, Ofcom has ruled today. Before letting a customer to inform their number to their future operator, the mobile operator is permitted to take two working days. Ofcom actually tried to cut down to two hours but couldn’t succeed the court challenge from O2, Vodafone and Orange in 2008.

Ofcom was also determined that the code ‘PAC’ which is required to switch provider and retain a number, must  be issued to the consumers, right away over the phone or within 2 hours(max) via text message. This will end the process where users will have to wait for several days before switching to a new operator.
