A global market intelligence and advisory services provider has released quarterly statistics pertaining to the worldwide mobile phone market, according to which Nokia is still the most preferred mobile phone brand. According to figures released by International Data Corporation (IDC), Nokia is leading the worldwide mobile phone market, having sold almost 108 million units during the first quarter of 2010.
Samsung comes next, with it’s Q1 2010 sales figures standing at 64.3 million units, followed by LG with 27 million units. Research In Motion (RMI) is a surprise entrant to the top 5 list, over taking Sony Ericsson, which lost to the Blackberry maker by a whisker. Motorola however, did not figure in the top 5 list, indicating a drop in sales this year.
According to senior research analyst Kevin Restivo at IDC, “The entrance of RIM into the top 5 underscores the sustained smartphone growth trend that is driving the global mobile phone market recovery.” He added that this is the first time a manufacturer dropped from the top 5 positions since Q2 of 2005 when “when Sony Ericsson grabbed the number 5 spot from BenQ Siemens.”
