Nokia Mobile Phones to Come with In-Built Radars

by Mobilemaniac on 28 January, 2010

A news from Nokia Research Centre (NRC), suggests that Nokia is likely to integrate radar into their mobile phones. The mobile phone radars can be used to detect the movements and speed of the approaching objects, similar to the traditional radars. Besides, this technology can be also used to control the phone’s functions with hand gestures.

When the electromagnetic signals from the radar integrated mobile phone beams out, there develops a sensitivity to movements. This allows the phone to detect, and measure the speed and the direction of the walk. Although many applications will be developed in future, currently the mobile phone radar technology allows the hands-free volume adjustment from across the room.

The highest asset (or danger?) of radar technology is its ability to work through any hard surfaces. Even though the concept has tried, there is no news when the Nokia mobile phones with in-built radars will be available in the market.
