Nokia launched its first TD-SCDMA Mobile Phone, Nokia 6788 in China during the 10th anniversary of its Beijing Product Centre. Nokia has already launched 16 types of 3G mobile phones in China and the company is planning to expand these further in 2010.
The latest financial report of the company shows that it has faced a Euro426 million loss in the third quarter of 2009, which was company’s first loss ever made in past ten years. By the launch of this new low-priced smartphone, Nokia is planning to defend its market leader position in China.
A report states that over half of the Chinese population believes that WCDMA phones are the best 3G network in the country, followed by CDMA 2000 and TD-SCDMA. This belief may affect the sale of this new Nokia handset, but Nokia may be using its low price as the main strategy for this mobile phone sale. It is also planning to offer extensive music services to attract new customers.
Nokia 6788 TD-SCDMA Handset features a Symbian S60 platform, a 5 mega pixels camera and a QVGA display of size 2.8 inches. Nokia is yet to reveal its new smartphone’s price.
