Mobile Phone Giants, Apple and BlackBerry Caught in Legal Web, Sued by Kodak

Mobile Phone Giants, Apple and BlackBerry Caught in Legal Web, Sued by KodakKodak, the pioneers in digital camera making, has filed a complaint against the mobile phone giants, Apple and BlackBerry, with US International Trade Commission (ITC), over certain technologies used in their mobile handsets. In the complaint, Kodak alleges that Apple iPhone and BlackBerry has violated the digital imaging patents owned by Kodak. The camera manufacturer has also sued Apple for infringement of patents related to digital cameras and some computer accessories.

Kodak has demanded for a substantial compensation amount, and it has requested ITC to bar both Apple and BlackBerry from shipping any more mobile phones until the battle has come to an end. A Kodak delegate said that some attempts were made earlier, with both firms to resolve this issue amicably, but was in vain.

Kodak filed similar suits against LG and Samsung during December 2009. In this issue, when LG had a settlement with Kodak, Samsung was found guilty. Currently, Apple is indulged in another legal battle with Nokia, with suits and counter-suits over the mobile phone technology patents. Thus, this marked another legal issue raised against them.
