skott ahn LG plans to sell 120 million handsets this yearLG has reportedly planned to sell about 120 million mobile phones in 2009. This target is 20% more than that of 2008. According to the Korea Times, Ahn Seung-kwon, LG’s head of mobile phone business has stated that this revised target is achievable inspite of the present economic downturn cutting the growth potential. The chief executive officer of LG has indicated that in the target of 120 million, 75 million will consist of GSM mobile phones while 45 million will consist of CDMA mobile phones.

Figures suggest that LG apparently sold about 52.4 million handsets in the first half of this year, with 22.6 million mobile phones in the first quarter and 29.8 million in the second quarter. Is LG’s target achievable or wishful? Only time will tell.
