Mobile phone maker HTC, had plenty of new and exciting things to announce at their launch event, held in London yesterday. The HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD smartphones were among the gadgets that were unveiled. An update to the HTC Sense UI and a new service called HTCSense.com were as well announced.
This service has a variety of features that can make life easy for the mobile phone user. It involves the usage of the cloud-computing concept. A user can create a HTCSense.com account, which can be accessed from a PC or laptop. The user’s handset can be paired up with this account. Some of the other features offered are:-
Find My Phone
The HTCSense.com service contains maps, which will show the location of the mobile phone, on the dashboard. Thus, if the device is misplaced or stolen, the user can track it using these maps. Not only this, but there is also an option to call up the phone and make it ring at full volume, even if it is in the silent mode.

Lock My Phone
The HTC phone can be locked remotely, from the dashboard. During this process, the user will have to set a 4-digit PIN. The mobile phone will be usable again, only after this PIN is entered. Locking the phone also allows sending an alternate contact number and a message to the missing phone, to allow the person who has found it, or stolen it, to call back. Since the phone will be otherwise useless, that person will only have the option to call back on the alternate contact number that was provided.

Syncing Up
The HTCSense account syncs up contacts, SMS and MMS between the phone and the cloud. The user can even reply to a message from the dashboard, in case the mobile phone is temporarily unavailable. Even trips can be planned and shared using the service. The user can get routes and other navigation details using their account. These will automatically be pre-cached in the mobile handset. They can be shared with fellow travellers and friends, without the need for them to access the user’s account too.
Applications
HTCSense.com even has a host of apps that can be downloaded to the mobile phone.
HTC Sense UI updates bring the unified messages feature, better widgets, more orientation-based features etc. to the phone.
The HTC Desire Z and Desire HD might be the first handsets to feature the new service. These mobile phones are expected to release in October.
