Google launches Google Goggles-Android Phones can now Search using Pictures

Hope it is time to bid ‘adieu’ to word search as we say ‘hello’ to picture search. Google has launched a new application for Google Android Mobile Phones that allow users to search using pictures instead of words. Dubbed as Google Goggles, it can provide data about a landmark, an artwork or a company logo just by a photograph of it.
When the user points his phone’s camera to an object, Google compare the elements of the picture against its image database. When it finds a match, it will retrieve the information about the picture including the related web pages and news stories. The location of the mobile phone is pinpointed using the GPS software and the digital compass integrated into it.
Google Goggles Visual Search is now available for free download from Android Marketplace. It is compatible with all Android smartphones using 1.6 versions and above. Other compatible versions has not been launched. Despite of being a latest addition to the growing number of android based functions, it is an infancy to the wide potential of Computer Vision Technology, which was earlier considered to be a fantasy.
