This is for those who missed to notice HTC Droid Eris, which launched almost the same time as of the much hyped Motorola Droid. Comparatively, Eris costs lower and probably, comes with better features. Moreover, this android 1.5 based HTC smartphone is a slim beauty compared to the bigger Droid. It measures just 4.5 inches long, 2.19 inches wide, 0.51 inches thick and weighs around 4.23 ounces. The capacitive touch screen of this mobile phone measures 3.2 inches and has a resolution of 320 X 480 pixels. With a vibrant view of images, sharp readable texts and high responsiveness, the display of Eris is simply awesome.
HTC Droid Eris Android 1.5 Mobile Phone does not come with a hardware keyboard, but there is a smart on-screen keyboard, which could be said to be one among the best performing virtual keyboards. The multi-touch pinch and zoom is where it scores next, when compared to Motorola Droid. This makes the web browsing much simpler and easier. Other than the touch interface, the trackball navigation of this android phone too works well, offering precise navigation through the web pages. A handful of applications are available in Eris, including weather applications (Motorola Droid don’t provide this), world clock, Teeter game, Peep (Twitter application) and many more. You can even access more applications through the Android market.
The contact management of this HTC Droid Eris is another notable feature. It will synchronize the phone contacts with the social network contacts and e-mail accounts. Regarding the connectivities, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and A2DP are available in it. There is a 5MP built-in camera in it with an auto focus facility that provides a decent picture quality. Plenty of editing options are provided to fine tune your capture. The video recording of the phone is also excellent. There is an attractive album application as well. You can easily share the photos and videos via social networking sites and multimedia messaging.
The multimedia player of HTC Droid Eris 5MP Camera Phone supports various file formats including MIDI, M4A, QCP, AMR, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WAV, WMA, MP3, EVRC-B, MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and WMV. The in-built phone memory is 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM, which is expandable using a microSD memory card. You can download songs and store them on the SD memory card. Eris has a battery life of 214 minutes talk time and 373 hours of stand by time.
Probably, the only place where Eris scores less when compared to Droid is its smaller screen and slower processor. This may not be a problem, if your requirements are not so higher. The web pages are loaded faster and no much issues with the call quality as well. Overall, it is an able competitor, as well as a cheaper mobile phone when compared to Motorola Droid. The last minute Christmas shoppers can definitely consider grabbing one for yourself!
