htc smart2 HTC Smart Mobile PhoneIn a world where smartphones heaving with features are most sought after, HTC has carved a market for itself through the HTC Smart. This mobile phone is smart in more ways than one – it’s a heart-warming balance of adequate features, effective functionality and affordability, a combination of which could take it even higher than it presently is. The phone is targeted at youngsters, so it’s obviously loaded with a lot of fun features. One of our favourites is the HTC Sense platform. One of the coolest things about this UI is the ‘Scenes’ functionality.

Put in simple terms, its a set of different home screen layouts that you can customize to suit your mood for the day. For example, the screen for your busy days will have icons for internet access, email and calender and the screen for your days of relaxation will give you one-touch access to music, photos and more. Well, the themes functionality is so much fun, you can play with it for hours on end – we did!

The HTC Smart lets you configure your contacts the way you like – it’s not all that a unique feature, though, we get to see it in every block of wood labeled ‘smartphone’. But again, it’s fun to arrange your favourite contacts in a grid. The Smart’s form factor has ‘HTC’ written all over it – the curved edges and the black slabby design has been endured previously. But Smart is pretty small, with a rather modest 2.8” touch-sensitive display. There are short-cut keys for call, terminate options, an obvious ‘back’ button that also doubles as a menu key and a tiny funnily placed button that brings up the on-screen menus.

This SMARTphone does not muck about. It’s straight, it’s simple. It has a basic 3MP camera with flash at the back and runs on a 300 MHz processor. Internal memory sported is a meager 256 MB, but there’s a microSD card slot, though. It ships with a multimedia player that can handle .aac, .amr, .qcp, .mid, .m4a, .mp3, .wma and .wav formats along with a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack.

Messaging is another function that’s quite comfortable, all thanks to the on-screen keyboard. Connectivity is taken care of by Bluetooth 2.0 and the device is equipped with an average 1100 mAh battery. At almost £180, the HTC Smart is definitely smarter than it’s more expensive counterparts.
