Hewlett-Packard (HP) designed its iPAQ series phones with the intention of supporting high end applications. In this line HP had already launched H4150 and H4350 with good response. Latest in this series is HP iPAQ Glisten Mobile Phone released in December 2009. Basically manufactured to serve as a pocket PC, it becomes extremely handy with support for both CDMA (WCDMA (UMTS)) and GSM (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) networks.
Powered by Qualcomm MSM 7200A 528 MHz processor, this candy bar black pocket PC comes preloaded with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5. RAM support extends to 256 MB and ROM up to 512MB. Card slots are provided for microSD to extend memory up to 16GB. Apart from SMS, users can set up Yahoo, AOL, Windows live accounts and access the respective messengers incorporated into it. Other messaging provisions include MMS, instant messages and emails.
The networking technologies integrated include GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates For Global Evolution), GPS (Global Positioning System) & HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). Browser supported is WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML. The Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) connectivity, considered essential for corporate transactions, is facilitated in this model and serves as a good corporate tool. In a Wi-Fi enabled campus, as long as Wi-Fi spots are available, users can log in to secure office and open networks. Bluetooth (ADP 2.0) is onboard for cable-free synchronization to a similarly equipped PC.
The display is enthralling with 65000 colours. The AMOLED resistive touch screen provides a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels with diagonal screen size of 2.5 inches. A QWERTY keyboard helps easy typing of emails and chat messages. The keys are raised and have enough space between them to prevent any mistyping. A 3.1 MP camera with digital zoom integrated in this mobile phone helps users to click pictures of good quality.
The software support in this model is quite excellent. In addition to a full suite of Microsoft applications that include Microsoft Office, additional software support is provided. Other features include Conference Call Capability (CCC), caller ID, voice recorder, and speakerphone. Sound support is good with MP3 and MIDI formats. Ringer tones are polyphonic. Digital recorder supports AAC, AMR, MP3, MIDI & eAAC+ audio standards. This java enabled phone comes loaded with PocketOffice to aid the users, be they professionals or non professionals.
A host of other feature that are supported include unlimited phonebook entries, call records, photo call, alarm, calendar etc. Connectors include 1 x Headphones – Mini-phone 3.5 mm and 1 x Micro-USB. Accessories included in this package are desktop charger, battery, stylus & USB cable.
Set up in dimensions of 112.8 x 62.8 x 13.4 mm, HP iPAQ Glisten 3.1MP Camera Mobile Phone weighs around 5.3 oz (approx.). The device runs on a Lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 1590 mAh.
