LG GT540 Android Mobile Phone

February 11, 2010

LG has moved on to its second android mobile phone-GT540. Leaked out in November 2009, LG GT540 did not create any big bangs in the mobile phone arena. It showed its face at CES 2010 last month, and the first look of this new mobile phone, gave us a feel that LG has worked well on its appearance, with slight curves on the top and bottom. The glossy look and the availability of handset in white, pink, grey and black colours, hint that the market of this mobile phone is solely youth.

lg-gt540-android-mobile-phoneScheduled to be released in Q1 2010, LG GT540 Android Mobile Phone is designed to work on quad-band GSM networks and is capable for global roaming. It supports EDGE and GPRS for data services, and has a 3G capability too. It appears that this GSM mobile phone runs on Android 2.0 platform. Similar to LG GW620, this android mobile phone features a 3 inches touch-screen display of resolution 320 X 480 pixels.

There is a 3 mega pixels camera integrated into LG GT540 3G Mobile Phone. It is said to feature an auto focus and a face detection technology. Let us wait till its release to know more about its performance. A major selling point of this GSM mobile phone seems to be its social networking aspect. With SNS manager, GT540 extends support for Facebook, Twitter and Bebo.

The media player of LG GT540 GSM Mobile Phone is capable to play back MPEG4, DivX, WMV and MP3 files. You can enjoy your favourite radio stations as well. The amount of on-board memory is not  known. However, you can expand its internal memory up to 32GB using a microSD memory card. The usual USB, bluetooth and HTML connectivities will be available in this mobile handset. There is no hint on the presence of Wi-Fi and GPS.

There is nothing much to talk on LG GT540’s specifications further, but its design seems to be interesting. Stay tuned for its release, which is said to be in April 2010.

Acer M900 Smartphone

February 1, 2010

acer-m900-smartphoneThe specification sheet of Acer M900 smartphone said it as a business-oriented mobile phone, with a 5MP camera, a 3.8 inches display, a QWERTY keyboard; plus some attractive features such as fingerprint reader protection, 3G and so on. I got impressed at the first glance, and dared to take a second look at it.

As soon as I hold Acer M900 in my hand, I felt a weight and a bulkiness, definitely an uncomfortable feeling to carry. But with a dimension of 62mm X 119mm X 17mm and a weight of 188 grams, this was expected. However, this heavy weight champion has managed to incorporate a 3.8 inches touch screen display, of resolution 400 X 800 pixels, within its bulky body. It displayed images, videos and web pages pretty well, but it was not comfortable to view under heavy sunlight. Moreover, my fingerprints easily fell in love with this display.

The QWERTY keyboard of Acer M900 smartphone is a slide-out kind, with pretty large and responsive keys. There is a fingerprint scanner under the display of Acer M900, in which you will have to swipe your fingers to gain access to the phone. This security mechanism seems to be beneficial, to protect your personal files in the phone. It is a Windows mobile phone that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 platform and has Acer’s own interface, Acer Shell. Overall, this interface has made Acer M900 smartphone an attractive one, with better 3D view and user-friendliness.

Acer M900 Windows Mobile Phone runs on a 522MHz Samsung processor and I did not find any lag in between, to load up to three applications. When it crossed three, it started functioning slow. It features a 5 mega pixels camera with a few camera settings such as ISO, white balance, scene modes etcetera. Even though I did not expect a good picture quality from a business smartphone, this Acer mobile phone surprised me by delivering good photographs, with realistic colours and details. However, the video capture was not an impressive one.

I enjoyed few of my favourite music tracks using Acer M900’s media player. The sound quality was good, and even the video playback did not disappoint me much. The only drawback is that it cannot play back Xvid files. I tried the integrated GPS of the phone as well, which showcased a decent performance. For connectivity, Acer M900 5MP Camera Mobile Phone has 3G, Wi-Fi and bluetooth. The battery of Acer M900 stood for around 240 minutes continuous talk time. The company claims it to stand for 470 hours in stand by mode.

Overall, Acer M900 3G mobile phone seemed to be a good choice with some stunning features like fingerprint scanner, good sound quality, good camera and so on. But it is not, when it comes to the memory. With just around 128MB RAM, the multi-tasking in M900 is almost difficult. However, if you do not want to run so many applications on your cell phone at a time, then Acer M900 smartphone is not a  bad choice.

Acer beTouch E101 Smartphone

January 29, 2010

acer-betouch-e101-smartphoneAcer is the favourite brand for those who drool over the low price tags. In one way, low cost marketing technique has definitely blessed Acer and they implement almost the same technique in smartphones as well. One of the cheap smartphones from Acer is beTouch E101. This is a windows mobile handset that comes with a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM 7225 processor. The memory is also appealing with 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM and an microSD card expansion.

Acer betouch E101 Windows Mobile Phone has the usual slim and curved top design, with a dimension of 56 X 113 X 13mm. It weighs around 118 grams. Overall, it is compact and easy to carry. The touch-screen 240 X 400 pixels display of this mobile phone has a touch sensitive wheel at its bottom, with which you can easily scroll through its menu. The interface employed in it Windows Mobile 6.5 and the navigation through the applications are found to be finger-friendly. Although it is finger-friendly, some of you may dislike the dark colour display it offers.

Acer beTouch E101 smartphone works on quad-band GSM networks. There is GPRS and EDGE for data services. A greatest disappointment of this GSM mobile phone is the absence of Wi-Fi and 3G. You will have to rely on the EDGE or GPRS for internet access. This is relatively a slow process. For the entertainment facilities, this bluetooth mobile phone has a media player that supports major file formats, FM radio and games.

Acer beTouch E101 GSM Mobile Phone has plenty to offer for social networking maniacs. There are applications for Facebook, YouTube and Flickr. There is a 2 mega pixels camera for this Acer mobile phone, but again there lacks the auto focus and flash. You can capture shots of up to 1600 X 1200 pixels. Furthermore, Acer beTouch E101 features an in-built GPS. The battery life too stands for a pretty awesome time period.

Overall, Acer beTouch E101 GPS phone is worth for its low price tags, but Acer shouldn’t have trimmed some important smartphone features such as 3G and Wi-Fi, and still calls it a smartphone.

Google Nexus One vs Motorola Droid

January 24, 2010

google-nexus-one-versus-motorola-droidAt present, the loudest ‘echo’ in the mobile phone market is ‘android mobile phones‘. Among them, the name of two mobile handsets yell out prominently, of that of Google HTC Nexus One and Motorola Droid. Droid was enjoying the emblem of being the coolest android smartphone in the arena, till the outburst of Google Nexus One. Even though the fad follows Nexus One currently, Droid has not completely lost its sheen. Motorola Droid has already created ripples in UK market, in the name of Motorola Milestone, and Google Nexus One is yet to create.  At this juncture, here is the comparison between Motorola Droid (Motorola Milestone for UK) and Google Nexus One.

Neither of these mobile phones can be said to be so appealing by their looks. When Nexus One encompasses its 3.7 inches AMOLED screen within a curved rectangular chassis, Droid does it in within a normal rectangular case. But Nexus One scores well in its display quality. Even though both comes with almost similar WVGA resolution (Droid packs 54 pixels more than Nexus One), it is the AMOLED screen that makes Nexus One a winner. The vibrancy it offers is remarkable. Droid comes with a slide out keyboard, where as Nexus One is satisfied with an on-screen one.

Motorola Droid runs on Google Android 2.0, whereas Nexus One comes with Android 2.1 version. The spotted difference in both comes in the visual experience. Android 2.1 provides a better view with enhanced 3D animations and Live wall papers. The voice-enabled search is another impressive feature in Android 2.1. Processor is another element that makes Nexus One a stronger player. The processor of Motorola Droid runs at a speed of 600MHz , where as Nexus One’s Snapdragon is a real dragon at 1GHz speed. With no lag in any of the performances, Nexus One grants an awesome performance. But this doesn’t mean Droid is slow by any means, may be by fractions.

There is no much difference in the multimedia aspect of Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One. Comparatively, the pictures they capture or the videos they play offer an equal performance. May be you can say that the AMOLED screen of Nexus One delivers a better view. Regarding the battery life, Droid offers a better 3G stand by time of 270 hours, but Nexus One will offer you only 250 hours. The talk time? Droid will offer a 6.4 hours, where as Nexus One can offer you for a 7 hours on 3G network.

Overall, Both Nexus One and Droid represent the best android phones in the market. But it is only the hardware, like Snapdragon processor and AMOLED screen that makes Nexus One a little superior to Droid.
