February 5, 2010

Sony Ericsson is in the pursuit to accomplish the ‘Green’ promise they made last year. We saw Elm, Hazel…and now its Aspen. Besides being a green phone, this mobile phone has another feather on its crown. It is the first smartphone to run the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system.

The latest version of Microsoft’s windows mobile operating system will adorn Sony Ericsson Aspen with enhanced user-interface, which means more finger-friendly menus and touch controls. Better web browser, which ensures a faster loading of pages, smoother panning and improved memory will be the other enhancements that the Aspen will receive due to Windows 6.5.3.

Ready for the launch in the second quarter of 2010, Sony Ericsson Aspen Windows Mobile Phone promises a fast multi-tasking of applications, suitable for business class. The mobile handset, which will be available in both iconic black and white silver, features a rectangular and solid design, attractive and stylish enough to flaunt. It has a dimension of 117mm X 60mm X 12.45mm and weighs 130 grams. This Sony Ericsson mobile phone can work on all quad band GSM networks and has an extensive support for GPRS, EDGE, UMTS/HSPA (3G).

Unexpectedly, the touchscreen display of Sony Ericsson Aspen measures only 2.4 inches, and bears a QVGA resolution, 240 X 320 pixels. Also, the phone has only 100MB on-board memory, but expandable up to 16GB. Don’t know why Sony Ericsson has lessened these two, despite of claiming it as a business phone.

In terms of camera, Sony Ericsson Aspen 3G Mobile Phone has a 3.2 mega pixels camera, with a digital zoom of 4X, automatic colour and light balance, multi-shot and a self-timer. The auto focus and additional camera settings are missing as per the specification sheet(Otherwise also where is the time for business men to capture photos and edit them on phone?). However, let us wait till its release to see its performance.

Next on the board is entertainment. Sony Ericsson knows that the business people require entertainment to relax between their assiduous life. Perhaps, that is why Aspen comes with plenty of entertainment features. Media player with stereo speakers, radio, You tube, video streaming, 3D games and Facebook. What more you want?

Sony Ericsson Aspen 3.2MP Camera Mobile Phone supports text, multimedia, instant messaging and e-mail messaging services. And, you have both QWERTY keyboard and predictive text input for fast text entry. There is handwriting recognition as well. Since this windows mobile phone is housed with Wi-Fi, 3G and the latest improved windows mobile operating system, let us hope that the whole connectivity will be fast and will not drowse us. It has bluetooth and USB for local transfers.

The integration of an assisted GPS is another advantage in Aspen, that too with Google maps. This feature and the support for Microsoft Office documents, will be a real boon for business men. Besides, there is an organizer with tasks, phone book, notes, flight, calendar, calculator and many more. Sony Ericsson claims that the battery of this GPS mobile phone lasts for 10 hours talk time on 2G and eight hours on 3G. The stand by time is said to be around 450 hours on 2G and 600 hours on 3G.

Overall, Sony Ericsson Aspen seems to be a decent option suitable for most of the masses. It is housed with features that can truly fulfil the requirements of everyone, who wish to get a fast 3G mobile phone, only if you don’t wish to get a totally high-end smartphone. Performance and Price Tag?…Lets us keep our fingers crossed!

Garmin Nuvifone G60 Mobile Phone

February 4, 2010

garmin-nuvifone-g60-mobile-phoneGarmin is well-known as a market leader in the satellite navigation solutions, and let us see how far it succeeds in the mobile phone market, through this review of one of its latest addition, Garmin nuvifone G60 Mobile Phone. This is a quad-band GSM mobile phone, with EDGE, GPRS and UMTS/HSDPA support. Design-wise, it pronounces a GPS look. However, with a matt finish body of dimension 4.4 inches X 2.3 inches X 0.57 inches and a weight of 4.8 oz, this is an appropriately sized mobile phone.

The LCD display of Garmin Nuvifone G60 3G Mobile Phone measures 3.5 inches in size and has a resolution 272 X 480 pixels. It provides a vibrant and colourful view of images and videos, but there is no enough resistance to heavy sunlight. The display automatically changes to portrait and landscape mode when you just turn the phone to the respective angles. The icons on the touch screen display are pretty large and comfortable to click. You can navigate through the menu easily and fast. The phone book of Garmin nuvifone G60 can hold up to 5000 contacts, with their details including birthday, e-mail addresses, additional numbers and so on.

Garmin nuvifone G60 GPS Mobile Phone supports most of the messaging services except MMS, and there are both traditional as well as QWERTY keyboards available in it, to enter the texts. Besides, it can automatically set up the e-mail for you, as soon as you enter the address and password. Two drawbacks in its e-mail functions are the lack of options to send attachments and the inability to view the HTML display.

Coming to its most highlighted feature, the GPS, we must tell you that nuvifone G60 presents you with bright maps and routes, and quick routing and re-routing facilities. The directions are voice-prompted. No much difficulty is faced to understand its turn-by-turn directions, as they are loud and clear enough to make out. You can get the live updates on weather, gas prices etcetera, but need subscriptions. The points of interests and yellow pages are available in it, but they take time to load, while you search. Despite of the presence of 3G and Wi-Fi, the overall loading of web pages in this 3G mobile phone is found to be pretty slow.

Furthermore, Garmin nuvifone G60 mobile phone comes with a 3 mega pixels camera. The overall quality of the pictures taken with it cannot be claimed to be of high quality, but are printable. The lack of video capturing is a highly disappointing factor in this Garmin mobile phone. Similarly, there is no video play back as well. In terms of memory, Garmin nuvifone G60 has a 4GB on-board storage, but  the available user memory is only 2GB. The maps loaded into it consumes the rest. But you have an option to expand its memory using a microSD memory card, up to a maximum of 16GB. The battery of this GPS mobile phone will lasts for 4 hours and 250 minutes, which is a medium performance.

Overall, Garmin nuvifone G60 Camera mobile phone balances with equal number of positives as well as negatives. Don’t know why Garmin left out certain important features such as video capture, video play back and camera settings to fine tune the pictures. May be it integrated too many features and failed to excel in one.

The AMOLED screen and the support for 262K colours enables the users to have a brilliant view of images, text and videos. But, the usual issue of difficulty to view under the heavy sunlight repeats in it, and thus, you need to cover the display with your hands to read it while in outdoors. Nothing specific to comment on its buttons, as it is quite comfortable to use.

You can personalize Samsung S5550 Shark GSM Mobile Phone with themes, tunes and videos. The applications work fast, and there are some short cuts to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. The browser employed in it works pretty fast, but loading of too many applications can be slow at times.

Furthermore, Samsung S5550 Slider mobile phone comes equipped with a 5 mega pixels camera with flash, auto focus and LED. Some effects such as smile detection, face detection and shooting effects are also provided to fine tune your capture. The picture quality it offers is fantastic and even the LED flash employed in it does a decent job. Video recording is also possible with it.

The music player of Samsung S5550 Shark cannot be said to so superior. Although its loud speaker performs well, the music player delivers you a sharp voice. The MPEG-4 file format video files can be played on it. The AMOLED display of this cell phone delivers an awesome video picture quality.

The battery of Samsung Shark S5550 5MP Camera Mobile Phone offers a whopping battery life of 11.7 hours and 623 hours of stand by time. Overall, Samsung Shark 2 is a strong player, with some major ratings including good camera, attractive battery life, AMOLED screen, all at a cheap price tag. Google Nexus One vs Motorola Droid

January 24, 2010

google-nexus-one-versus-motorola-droidAt present, the loudest ‘echo’ in the mobile phone market is ‘android mobile phones‘. Among them, the name of two mobile handsets yell out prominently, of that of Google HTC Nexus One and Motorola Droid. Droid was enjoying the emblem of being the coolest android smartphone in the arena, till the outburst of Google Nexus One. Even though the fad follows Nexus One currently, Droid has not completely lost its sheen. Motorola Droid has already created ripples in UK market, in the name of Motorola Milestone, and Google Nexus One is yet to create.  At this juncture, here is the comparison between Motorola Droid (Motorola Milestone for UK) and Google Nexus One.

Neither of these mobile phones can be said to be so appealing by their looks. When Nexus One encompasses its 3.7 inches AMOLED screen within a curved rectangular chassis, Droid does it in within a normal rectangular case. But Nexus One scores well in its display quality. Even though both comes with almost similar WVGA resolution (Droid packs 54 pixels more than Nexus One), it is the AMOLED screen that makes Nexus One a winner. The vibrancy it offers is remarkable. Droid comes with a slide out keyboard, where as Nexus One is satisfied with an on-screen one.

Motorola Droid runs on Google Android 2.0, whereas Nexus One comes with Android 2.1 version. The spotted difference in both comes in the visual experience. Android 2.1 provides a better view with enhanced 3D animations and Live wall papers. The voice-enabled search is another impressive feature in Android 2.1. Processor is another element that makes Nexus One a stronger player. The processor of Motorola Droid runs at a speed of 600MHz , where as Nexus One’s Snapdragon is a real dragon at 1GHz speed. With no lag in any of the performances, Nexus One grants an awesome performance. But this doesn’t mean Droid is slow by any means, may be by fractions.

There is no much difference in the multimedia aspect of Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One. Comparatively, the pictures they capture or the videos they play offer an equal performance. May be you can say that the AMOLED screen of Nexus One delivers a better view. Regarding the battery life, Droid offers a better 3G stand by time of 270 hours, but Nexus One will offer you only 250 hours. The talk time? Droid will offer a 6.4 hours, where as Nexus One can offer you for a 7 hours on 3G network.

Overall, Both Nexus One and Droid represent the best android phones in the market. But it is only the hardware, like Snapdragon processor and AMOLED screen that makes Nexus One a little superior to Droid.
