nokia e5 Nokia E5 Mobile PhoneCombining the functionalities of a business and social networking device, the Nokia E5 could make a professional rub his palms in glee. It has all the features that you would expect of a business device, such as Exchange, Lotus Notes Traveler, World Traveler and Office Suite as well as access to social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. The E5 is a 3G mobile phone with support to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and maximum upload and download speeds of up to 2Mbps and 10.2Mbps.

The Nokia E5 mobile phone runs on Symbian S60 3rd Edition and Feature Pack 2. The Blackberry-style handset comes in black, white, copper, silver and blue with stainless-steel accents and has a 2.36” QVGA display that’s capable of displaying up to 256,000 colours. Like every other smartphone in the industry, this Nokia mobile phone lets you access Facebook and Twitter right from the customizable homescreen.

The camera of this Nokia E5 Bluetooth Mobile Phone is an interesting 5MP one that comes with LED flash, 3xdigital zoom and full focus, using which you can record ‘DVD-quality video’ as well. There also is an Assisted-GPS receiver on board and of course, Ovi Maps. And in case you wish to listen to music while working, the E5 is prepared for that too – it has a good music player capable of playing mp3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA formats, Internet Radio and Real Media Player, not to mention Music Store 3.0.

You can also store an ample amount of files in the Nokia E5 – internal memory isn’t all that much at 256 MB, but you can expand it to up to 32 GB. But at the end of the day,  the Nokia E5 is a business phone – so there’s the whole package of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications. The E5 sounds nice, but not nice enough. It’s set to hit the markets sometime this year for £160, presumably.

Microsoft KIN Mobile Phones – A Sneak Peek

April 14, 2010

microsoft kin Microsoft KIN Mobile Phones – A Sneak PeekKeeping its fingers crossed, Microsoft has launched a new range of KIN mobile phones. Hoping to win over some part of the huge chunk of market share that Apple and Google gobbled up, Microsoft has seemingly given its best in to these mobile phones that have been manufactured by Sharp. Inside though, the Kin phones have a Microsoft soul with the software giant controlling the software and the online services.

kin one Microsoft KIN Mobile Phones – A Sneak PeekThe Kin range of mobile phones consist of Kin One and Kin Two, both of which are loaded with features that tightly embrace social-networking. The One is the one (no pun intended!) that has the most interesting form factor. It is shaped like a rounded cobblestone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Kin Two on the other hand, is rectangular with a slide-out QWERTY like the horde of smartphones in the market today.

Kin One has a 5MP camera while Kin Two has an 8MP one that’s capable of recording HD video. Both devices have 3G connectivity and also support GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth. While the phones look good enough externally, Kin software is what is thought to be the primary attraction. Kin Loop is the home screen that is similar to  Motoblur, giving you updates from all the social networking sites and more in one place.

Kin Spot, another aspect of the software also sounds really amazing. It’s a one stop spot where you can share just about anything – pictures, videos, messages, you name it. All you have to do is drag and drop what you wish to share and send it to as many people as you wish in one go. Kin Studio is a service that lets you store back-ups of all your files so that you don’t lose them even if your phone gets lost. Both these devices sport the Zune media player, so if you have a Zune Pass, unlimited access to Microsoft’s entertainment platform is assured.

These juicy handsets are to be launched in the US on Verizon Wireless this summer, while those in the UK will have to wait till autumn. It looks like Vodafone will be launching the Microsoft mobile phones else where in Europe. As far as first impressions go, Microsoft Kin mobile phones have done great. Will they give other big fish a run for their money?

Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro Mobile Phone

March 12, 2010

sony ericsson vivaz pro1 Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro Mobile PhonePresenting the Vivaz Pro, another ‘coming soon’ mobile phone from Sony Ericsson that could give the high-end mobile phones of Nokia a run for their money. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is stuffed with several interesting features, some of which like HD video recording are truly exceptional.

The handset, which is available in black and white options looks very elegant, and the slide-out QWERTY keypad takes it a step higher. The black version could be pretty safe to opt for, but we like the white version better – you know, we’re always for combinations that bring out a striking contrast. The keypad is a grey one with well-spaced out black buttons which ought to make messaging comfortable. The dimensions stand at 109.0 x 52.0 x 15.0 mm and the gadget weighs a little over 117g. The screen is a spacious 3.2” 360 x 640 pixel one, the very thought of which brings a smile of relief on our faces – Ah! Browsing has got to be comfy.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro QWERTY keyboard mobile phone boasts an able 5MP camera (wonder why the 8MP camera of the Vivaz has been cut down) with flash, auto focus and 4x digital zoom. Adding more fizz to the camera are face and smile detection and geo-tagging. Now this here is one dandy camera, huh? Of course, its not as good as that of Vivaz’s, but still. In the connectivity department, Vivaz Pro is provided with 3.5G and WiFi, apart from Bluetooth.

Here comes the interesting part for which we’ve been for – the juicy feature set of the Vivaz Pro. The device is compatible with YouTube and Facebook and sports a  PlayNow service that can render entertainment before the wink of an eye. The built-in GPS with Google Maps and Wayfinder is an added advantage, so is the Media Go entertainment organiser. There also is a dedicated video key lets you show-off the HD video you just caught to the entire world in a jiffy.

Samsung Monte Bar C3200 Mobile Phone

March 3, 2010

Samsung Monte Bar C3200 Mobile PhoneThe Samsung Monte Bar C3200 Camera Mobile Phone is yet another affordable handset from Samsung that’s more lacking than not. If you’re after a mobile phone with limited features that’s sturdy as well, then the Monte Bar C3200 could be your answer. The wedge shaped handset looks pretty good, with Samsungish orange sides and a black frame.

The phone houses a basic 2” display and a keypad which appears easy to use with a large angular navigation key at the centre. This Samsung mobile phone is a quad band GSM device and comes with Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0 connectivity. The C3200 is very light, at just 77 grams and measures 112 x 47 x 13mm. Furthermore, it’s stuffed with minimal features such as a basic 2MP camera with a video capture resolution of mere 176 x 144 pixels, FM radio and a 3.5mm audio socket.

The Samsung  C3200 Mobile Phone is equipped with a decent music player with the Digital Natural Sound Engine Digital Natural Sound Engine, so sound quality should be very good. The 960 mAh battery is quoted to provide a talktime of 8.3 hours and almost 21 days of standby. This mobile handset lacks 3G or WiFi, but has a web browser, which obviously will be a pain to view in the tiny screen.

Verdict:
Samsung Monte Bar C3200 is a basic mobile phone with minimal features. It lacks anything special that’s worthy of mention.
