HTC Smart Mobile Phone
May 6, 2010
In a world where smartphones heaving with features are most sought after, HTC has carved a market for itself through the HTC Smart. This mobile phone is smart in more ways than one – it’s a heart-warming balance of adequate features, effective functionality and affordability, a combination of which could take it even higher than it presently is. The phone is targeted at youngsters, so it’s obviously loaded with a lot of fun features. One of our favourites is the HTC Sense platform. One of the coolest things about this UI is the ‘Scenes’ functionality.
Put in simple terms, its a set of different home screen layouts that you can customize to suit your mood for the day. For example, the screen for your busy days will have icons for internet access, email and calender and the screen for your days of relaxation will give you one-touch access to music, photos and more. Well, the themes functionality is so much fun, you can play with it for hours on end – we did!
The HTC Smart lets you configure your contacts the way you like – it’s not all that a unique feature, though, we get to see it in every block of wood labeled ’smartphone’. But again, it’s fun to arrange your favourite contacts in a grid. The Smart’s form factor has ‘HTC’ written all over it – the curved edges and the black slabby design has been endured previously. But Smart is pretty small, with a rather modest 2.8” touch-sensitive display. There are short-cut keys for call, terminate options, an obvious ‘back’ button that also doubles as a menu key and a tiny funnily placed button that brings up the on-screen menus.
This SMARTphone does not muck about. It’s straight, it’s simple. It has a basic 3MP camera with flash at the back and runs on a 300 MHz processor. Internal memory sported is a meager 256 MB, but there’s a microSD card slot, though. It ships with a multimedia player that can handle .aac, .amr, .qcp, .mid, .m4a, .mp3, .wma and .wav formats along with a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack.
Messaging is another function that’s quite comfortable, all thanks to the on-screen keyboard. Connectivity is taken care of by Bluetooth 2.0 and the device is equipped with an average 1100 mAh battery. At almost £180, the HTC Smart is definitely smarter than it’s more expensive counterparts.
LG GT540 Android Mobile Phone
February 11, 2010
LG has moved on to its second android mobile phone-GT540. Leaked out in November 2009, LG GT540 did not create any big bangs in the mobile phone arena. It showed its face at CES 2010 last month, and the first look of this new mobile phone, gave us a feel that LG has worked well on its appearance, with slight curves on the top and bottom. The glossy look and the availability of handset in white, pink, grey and black colours, hint that the market of this mobile phone is solely youth.
Scheduled to be released in Q1 2010, LG GT540 Android Mobile Phone is designed to work on quad-band GSM networks and is capable for global roaming. It supports EDGE and GPRS for data services, and has a 3G capability too. It appears that this GSM mobile phone runs on Android 2.0 platform. Similar to LG GW620, this android mobile phone features a 3 inches touch-screen display of resolution 320 X 480 pixels.
There is a 3 mega pixels camera integrated into LG GT540 3G Mobile Phone. It is said to feature an auto focus and a face detection technology. Let us wait till its release to know more about its performance. A major selling point of this GSM mobile phone seems to be its social networking aspect. With SNS manager, GT540 extends support for Facebook, Twitter and Bebo.
The media player of LG GT540 GSM Mobile Phone is capable to play back MPEG4, DivX, WMV and MP3 files. You can enjoy your favourite radio stations as well. The amount of on-board memory is not known. However, you can expand its internal memory up to 32GB using a microSD memory card. The usual USB, bluetooth and HTML connectivities will be available in this mobile handset. There is no hint on the presence of Wi-Fi and GPS.
There is nothing much to talk on LG GT540’s specifications further, but its design seems to be interesting. Stay tuned for its release, which is said to be in April 2010.
Garmin Nuvifone G60 Mobile Phone
February 4, 2010
Garmin is well-known as a market leader in the satellite navigation solutions, and let us see how far it succeeds in the mobile phone market, through this review of one of its latest addition, Garmin nuvifone G60 Mobile Phone. This is a quad-band GSM mobile phone, with EDGE, GPRS and UMTS/HSDPA support. Design-wise, it pronounces a GPS look. However, with a matt finish body of dimension 4.4 inches X 2.3 inches X 0.57 inches and a weight of 4.8 oz, this is an appropriately sized mobile phone.
The LCD display of Garmin Nuvifone G60 3G Mobile Phone measures 3.5 inches in size and has a resolution 272 X 480 pixels. It provides a vibrant and colourful view of images and videos, but there is no enough resistance to heavy sunlight. The display automatically changes to portrait and landscape mode when you just turn the phone to the respective angles. The icons on the touch screen display are pretty large and comfortable to click. You can navigate through the menu easily and fast. The phone book of Garmin nuvifone G60 can hold up to 5000 contacts, with their details including birthday, e-mail addresses, additional numbers and so on.
Garmin nuvifone G60 GPS Mobile Phone supports most of the messaging services except MMS, and there are both traditional as well as QWERTY keyboards available in it, to enter the texts. Besides, it can automatically set up the e-mail for you, as soon as you enter the address and password. Two drawbacks in its e-mail functions are the lack of options to send attachments and the inability to view the HTML display.
Coming to its most highlighted feature, the GPS, we must tell you that nuvifone G60 presents you with bright maps and routes, and quick routing and re-routing facilities. The directions are voice-prompted. No much difficulty is faced to understand its turn-by-turn directions, as they are loud and clear enough to make out. You can get the live updates on weather, gas prices etcetera, but need subscriptions. The points of interests and yellow pages are available in it, but they take time to load, while you search. Despite of the presence of 3G and Wi-Fi, the overall loading of web pages in this 3G mobile phone is found to be pretty slow.
Furthermore, Garmin nuvifone G60 mobile phone comes with a 3 mega pixels camera. The overall quality of the pictures taken with it cannot be claimed to be of high quality, but are printable. The lack of video capturing is a highly disappointing factor in this Garmin mobile phone. Similarly, there is no video play back as well. In terms of memory, Garmin nuvifone G60 has a 4GB on-board storage, but the available user memory is only 2GB. The maps loaded into it consumes the rest. But you have an option to expand its memory using a microSD memory card, up to a maximum of 16GB. The battery of this GPS mobile phone will lasts for 4 hours and 250 minutes, which is a medium performance.
Overall, Garmin nuvifone G60 Camera mobile phone balances with equal number of positives as well as negatives. Don’t know why Garmin left out certain important features such as video capture, video play back and camera settings to fine tune the pictures. May be it integrated too many features and failed to excel in one.
