LG GX500 Mobile Phone

April 24, 2010

lg gx500 LG GX500 Mobile PhoneDual Sim mobile phones have not exactly been LG’s thing, but it seems confident this time with the soon-to-be-launched GX500. This is LG’s second dual-sim phone after the KS660. The handset is a looker – in the front is a 3” touchscreen display below which is the navigation button and the call keys. The black and grey combination is nothing new, but its decent nevertheless.

Like the KS660, the LG GX500 Dual Sim Mobile Phone lacks 3G connectivity. It’s a GSM-only device with support to WiFi, GPRS and EDGE. Other connectivity options are USB and Bluetooth and there’s an Opera Mini 5 web browser and an email client. This Dual Sim mobile phone carries a 3.15 megapixel camera with auto focus and video recording. The camera isn’t all that great, but the dual sim functionality keeps popping up now and then, silencing you.

The LG GX500 ships with a large 1500 mAh battery that promises 6 hours of talktime and standby time of 16 days. But being a dual sim phone, we reckon the battery would run out of charge pretty often. Music buffs can benefit from an efficient music player capable of playing eAAC+, WAV, and MP3 file formats. The device houses an internal memory of 40 MB which can be expanded to up to 16GB using microSD cards.

All seems well with the LG GX500. If priced right, it could be a run away hit, what with the dual sim functionality. The handset is expected to hit the UK markets sometime in May this year, while it could be available in Russia and Ukraine from next month onwards, according to some industry sources.

Toshiba K01 Mobile Phone

April 8, 2010

toshiba k011 Toshiba K01 Mobile PhoneOpting for a mobile phone made by a leading LCD TV maker has it’s own advantages. Say, you get displays that come with technologies found in their TVs. The Toshiba K01 Mobile Phone has a 4.1” AMOLED touchscreen that simply gleams, and according to Toshiba, the display has been sprinkled with a little bit of magic found in the Toshiba Regza LCD TVs. So, its quality has got to be excellent.

The K01 looks very appealing – with a smooth, svelte finish and a QWERTY that slides out smoother than one would expect. The keys don’t seem comfortable though, for they’re a little too flat. The Toshiba K01runs on a Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, so you can enjoy access to Microsoft Exchange, Pocket Office and other aspects that are unique to Windows Mobile.

The handset comes pre-installed with several applications such as YouTube and Facebook, accessing which in the large screen should be a sheer pleasure. The camera though, is not all that good – it appears to be a basic 3.15MP one that lacks flash, now this is so unlike a smartphone! The K01 has a good enough music player and you can download as many songs you like and also play with Windows Marketplace app store, for the internal memory can come up to up to 32GB (with the help of microSD cards ofcourse!)

The Toshiba K01 Mobile Phone doesn’t seem like it’s going to win a lot of hearts, but let’s wait and see. We don’t have news on pricing and availability, but we reckon it’ll be launched sometime later this year.

LG GT350 Mobile Phone

March 11, 2010

lg gt350 LG GT350 Mobile PhoneThe LG KS360 Neon…some phone eh? Its charm and ease of use were reasons enough to attract over 5 million users till date! Succeeding this hands-down winner is the LG GT350 -  a compelling phone in its own right. This handset keeps the user-friendliness and the touchscreen interface intact, but has quite a lot of enhancements to its credit. The design of this handset is pretty similar to that of its elder brother – a slide-out QWERTY keypad that’s of a funky blue shade and a touch-sensitive front screen. The keypad, as was the case with the KS360 sports well-spaced out and responsive keys that make messaging a sheer pleasure.

The LG GT350 camera mobile phone has a wide 3” full touchscreen that has a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels, while the KS360 has just a 2.4” one. The keyboard of the LG GT350 has four rows of keys while its predecessor had just three. However, its the social networking applications and support for Google Talk and Windows Live that could bring home the bacon for this gizmo. Email features are aplenty and you can access social networking sites Twitter and Facebook easily from the homescreen.

The mobile phone seems to have easy-peasy shortcut keys for nearly everything under the sun! For example, it’s provided with dedicated shortcut keys that can take you straight to your mailbox and chat. Furthermore, this LG  mobile phone comes with supports for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and threaded messaging that lets you carry on conversations with ease by bundling messages as per the senders.

Now for the media bit. The GT350 boasts a 3.15 MP camera with LED flash and autofocus and a superb media player that supports every format but the kitchen sink! What is more, using microSD cards of up to 16GB, you can take maximum advantage of this mobile phone’s media player. Streaming videos directly from YouTube on to the 3” screen will indeed be a pleasure, so will be browsing. There’s no official word from LG regarding pricing and availability, but a few online retailers like Play have listed it for a pre-order of £499.

Verdict:
The LG GT350 Mobile Phone appears to be one of those handsets that youngsters will flock around. The QWERTY keyboard, social networking applications and an able media player add more gleam to the voguish gizmo.
