The GSM algorithm, which is used to encrypt 80 percent of the world’s mobile phone calls has been cracked. The code has been employed to protect the privacy of calls from unauthorised access. The person who deciphered this code is Karsten Nohl, a German cryptographer and computer engineer.

Karsten Nohl claims this to have done in an attempt to expose the loop holes in the GSM security systems. He revealed this at Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin, a four-day conference of Computer hackers. With the aid of 24 fellow hackers, Nohl was able to compile the 21 year old code. Moreover, he has machinated a practical way to track the entire conversation with the help of a gadget that costs around $4000.
