Hyundai Corporation is a well known name in the automobile sector. Now this familiar name is making news, but on an unfamiliar product. Hyundai now hopes to take a slice of the UK mobile market. They have confirmed they have lined up 10 to 15 handsets for release this year. The phones will be released focusing on a wide range like ‘Business’, Lifestyle’, ‘Music’ and ‘Innovation’.

Hyundai claims their phones would stand out due to their intuitive operation, simple design, high quality workmanship and high technical standards. They plan to launch these phones during the Mobile World Congress that would be held in the month of February 2009.

Hyundai MB-400 Bluetooth Mobile Phone falls under the ‘Music‘ category and has an iPod look and feel. The highlights of the phone are 1.3 megapixel camera with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, 1GB MicroSD memory card, TFT touchscreen with 262,000 colours, Bluetooth, music player and FM radio. With its touch display, you have easy access to all the phone functions and to your video and music files.

The phone is expected to operate on dual band and will come with GPRS Class12 and WAP 2.0 browser. The messaging features include MMS, SMS and chat. Its battery will support talk time of 2 hrs and standby time of 200 hrs. This mobile phone will be a compact one with dimensions of 104 x 50 x 9.5mm and weighing 75g.

The company aims to achieve up to 5% market share within a span of five years. Hyundai MB-400 Camera Mobile Phone and Hyundai MB-500 mobile phone will be available soon in the market. The phone is equipped with music player and video player. The organiser features calendar, to-do list, alarm and world clock. Other functions include three embedded games, photo editor, FM radio, melody composer, voice memo, currency converter, environment settings, built-in hands free and vibra alarm. Its phone book can store up to 500 entries with up to 4 numbers for each entry and 1 email address.

This is not the first time an automotive company is entering mobile segment, recently Porsche unveiled their own phone -P’9522 mobile phone and now we hear that Land Rover is going to team with toughphone specialists Sonim. How far these mobile phones will be successful, only time can tell. Until then just wait and watch.
