BLUETOOTH – A Booming technology of wireless connectivity!

June 29, 2007

Initially everyone used only cords or wires for getting connections between two devices physically. When you use bunch of cords for simple connectivity you will end up in a mess. The need for wireless connectivity slowly was raised at the end of 2000. This new wireless technology has been introduced to reduce the headache of using more number of cords for physical connectivity. Now you can also enjoy the broadband connectivity with unimaginable speed and without using single cord.

The basic requirement of this technology is radio signals or waves in the 2.4 GHz spectrum. This wire-free technology can be applied to distinct devices like camcorders, computers, mobile phones, printers, game consoles, and mobile computers or PDAs. There is huge difference between the infrared (IR) and Bluetooth technology. IR always requires “line of sight positioning” of the units which have to be connected whereas this Bluetooth does not require this “line of sight positioning” of the units. The line of sight positioning is nothing physical proximity of units to be connected.

Named after a Danish king, Harald Bluetooth who tried to combine Denmark and a part of Norway in the 1900s, Bluetooth has a lot of advantages of its own. It can automatically detect other Bluetooth enabled devices and can communicate with them without any user input.

The widely popular application of this wire-free technology is in mobile phones. This technology is mostly applied in car kits. Some of car kit Bluetooth needs the assistance of installation dealer and some may be simply installed by popping. It is possible to connect your PDA with your Bluetooth enabled mobile phones. Now you can use it as a wireless modem. With the support of Bluetooth enabled printers, you can take prints with huge speed. But the only disadvantage of the technology is insecurity at the time of file transmission.
